Overview
Description
The senior student spends four weeks assigned to the UMC Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic, where he/she receives training and expe rience in the treatment of patients with a wide range of acute and chronic psychiatry disorders. The student attends morning and afternoon clinics, as well as scheduled teaching sessions and gains experience in all modalities used in outpatient psychiatric care. During this block the student performs initial evaluations on a selected number of patients, and chooses a limited number of these patients for weekly follow-up visits. The student may also choose to participate in other clinic activities, e.g., groups. The student also learns about the coordination of ancillary services, including vocational rehabilitation, social services, etc. Close supervision by attending faculty is provided throughout the block.
