Overview
Description
This is a 2-week rotation in Emergency Medicine (EM) where third-year medical students will gain experience in the initial evaluation, stabilization, and management of undifferentiated patients and acutely ill and injured patients. The Emergency Department is a unique learning environment of high acuity and great diversity in its patient population. Our aim is for students to learn how to approach the undifferentiated patient, differentiate patient acuity (sick versus not sick), perform simple procedures, and learn and apply basic management of critical life-threatening emergencies. Students will participate in patient care during clinical shifts with board-certified emergency physicians and Emergency Medicine residents. They will also engage in simulation training, procedural skills training, ultrasound training, didactics in core EM topics, and self-directed learning modules.
