Description
A study of one of the principal failure mechanisms of metallic implants - environmentally assisted fracture (EAF). EAF includes the mechanisms of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and corrosion fatigue (CF). The synergistic interaction of stress and corrosion will be discussed with particular attention to implant alloy systems. The role of EAF in the failure of other material systems (e.g., polymers) will also be discussed.
