Introduction to Pain Management

This elective course is designed for the student seeking a deeper understanding of pain, pain medications, and pain management. This course provides the student with in-depth knowledge of pain characteristics, assessment, medications, and alternative treatment modalities utilizing current research findings and evidence based practice. Emphasis is placed on the use of the nursing process in various aspects of pain management with a specific focus on the opioid epidemic. State and Federal regulatory issues relating to opioids and pain management are also explored.
